Fani Parali // Short-Clawed, Long-Clawed: Aonyx & Drepan as Constellation Spirits (2024)

Short-Clawed, Long-Clawed: Aonyx & Drepan as Constellation Spirits (2024) by Fani Parali revisits Parali’s iconic 2020 exhibition, Aonyx & Drepan and The Minders of The Warm at Southwark Park Galleries.

Derived from an original painting by Parali featured in the exhibition, this work celebrates the title’s characters of Aonyx & Drepan, who we encountered at Dilston Gallery over a series of intimate lip-synced performances, asserting the artist’s fascination in the sheer vastness of this world, and her faith in a connective tissue between beings through Deep Time.

Aonyx & Drepan is currently being performed in Regents Park’s English Gardens, as part of Frieze Sculpture (18 September - 27 October 2024).

‘AONYX is inspired by the Harpy Eagle, a raptor with giant claws and a trusting manner. DREPAN is based on the short-clawed otter, with amphibian qualities, singing from within the water and from close to the ground in contrast to AONYX’s flight views. Together, they are the lungs of Dilston Gallery, singing closely and together.’ – Fani Parali, 2020

Fani Parali is represented by Cooke Latham Gallery.
