This new series of Snabbits was created for installation within Bonita Ely's new work We Live to be Surprised: The Snabbits (1989-2019) as part of Southwark Park Galleries curated touring exhibition From the Kitchen Table: Drew Gallery Projects 1984-1990 in spring 2019. The Snabbits were exhibited at Southwark Park Galleries and across the show's tour which took place in both Canterbury's Herbert Read Gallery at the University of the Creative Arts, and Folkestone's Brewery Tap in autumn 2018.

Snabbits are a half snail/half rabbit hybrid created by the Australian artist, raised in agribusiness regimes, a feral monoculture embattled in the extremes of global warming in her series of installations, We Live to be Surprised during 1989 – 92.

Bonita Ely (born 1946) is an Australian multidisciplinary artist who lives in Sydney. Ely has a diverse practice across various media and has often addressed feminist, environmental and socio-political issues. In 2017 Ely represented Australia in Documenta14 in Kassel, Germany and its second iteration in Athens.
